Hallmarks of a committed Christian
By Daniel Yohanna
Commitment:
The state of being bound to a course in life.
It is to not veer from a stand you’ve taken.
These days, people are committed to nothing more than themselves and their bellies.
1. Committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Lord = owner
Rom 10:9,10
2. Hearing, studying and practicing the Word.
You do not love/obey/honour God more than you love/obey/honour His Word.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 32:45-47
Moses finished speaking all these words to all Israel, and he said to them: “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law. For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”
Psa. 1:1-3
Josh. 1:8
3. Prayer
Eph 6:18-19
Col 4:2
1 Thess 5:17
1 Pet 4:7

Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,
Matthew 4:10
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
There cannot be commitment without service.
Exo 23:25-27
Job 36:11
Dan. 3:17 - our God whom we serve
Dan 6:20 Has the God whom you serve…delivered you?
Acts 27:22,23 - the God…whom I serve
5. The Great Commission
“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”
Acts of the Apostles 20:24 NLT
You are under a Commission: the Great Commission - to win people to the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.
“For what will be our confident hope, our exhilarating joy, or our wonderful trophy that we will boast in before our Lord Jesus at his appearing? It is you! Yes, you are our glorious pride and joy!”
1 Thessalonians 2:19-20 TPT
Recall Tobi Amusan and the National Anthem as she takes the gold medal in hurdles at the World Athletics games.
6. Discipleship
To disciple is to mentor. To groom. To reproduce yourself in people.
It’s not enough to win people to the Lord, we must get them rooted and established through discipleship.
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Jesus: John 17:4
I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.
[He had reproduced Himself in His disciples]
Philippians 4:9
The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
7. The house of God.
Psa 122:1,6,9
Hag. 1:3-11
Many people neglect the house of God because they don’t see it as their own house, so they face their personal agenda only.
Jesus called His Father’s house His house
[Compare John 2:16 and Matt 21:13]
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
There cannot be commitment without your giving being involved.
Luke 12:13-21, 29-34 => the Rich fool
Mark 10:17-22 => the Rich young ruler
Every opportunity to give is a test from God for you to move to the next level.
[Gen. 22:1~14]
Every demand from God is a test for you to be promoted.
You must give up to go up.
Give up the present to possess the future.
